Nata in Venezuela nel 1920, Luchita Hurtado racconta la sua infanzia a New York, le sue prime lezioni di arte e la sfida di continuare a occuparsi contemporaneamente della carriera artistica e della famiglia. Parlando con il direttore del suo studio, Ryan Good, l’artista spiega che solo negli ultimi anni il suo lavoro ha iniziato a ricevere maggiore attenzione da curatori e musei. La seguiamo alla Serpentine Galleries di Londra, dove inaugura la sua prima personale in un’istituzione pubblica, con oltre cento dipinti e disegni. Di ritorno a Los Angeles, la vediamo dipingere all’aperto in un parco e riflettere sul rapporto tra uomo e natura, fulcro del suo ultimo lavoro.

Born in Venezuela in 1920, Luchita Hurtado describes her childhood growing up in New York, her first art classes, and the challenges of starting a family while maintaining an artistic practice. Speaking with her studio director, Ryan Good, Hurtado explains that it was not until recent years that her work began receiving more attention from curators and museums. The artist travels to the Serpentine Galleries in London to celebrate her first solo exhibition at a public institution, showcasing over one hundred works and charting her many styles of painting and drawing. Back in Los Angeles, Hurtado paints en plein air in a local park and elucidates on the tenuous relationship between humans and nature, which is the focus of her newest work.
Ian Forster è produttore e regista presso la società di produzione ART21 a New York. Dal 2009, anno in cui è entrato a far parte della società, ha partecipato a cinque stagioni di Art in the Twenty-First Century e al film William Kentridge: Anything Is Possible, vincitore del Peabody Award. Dal 2012 supervisiona la serie digitale Extended Play che ha prodotto oltre cento brevi ritratti di artisti. Nel 2013 ha creato e diretto Artist to Artist una serie di video online di conversazioni tra artisti registrate durante le varie biennali internazionali in Italia, Turchia, Emirati Arabi e Stati Uniti.
